Before you subscribe
- Start with a trial, like this free IPTV trial in Canada.
- Check the playlist:
$ iptv-toolkit info trial.m3u $ iptv-toolkit check trial.m3u -n 50 - Test during hockey night. Run
iptv-toolkit speedon a sports channel during a Saturday game or the playoffs. - Compare plans: price, number of connections, and whether French channels are included if you need them (see IPTV subscription Canada and IPTV cost in Canada).
- Check the legal side: is IPTV legal in Canada?
Canadian connections
| Connection | What to check |
|---|---|
| Fibre (cities) | Usually plenty of speed. If it buffers, test Wi-Fi first. |
| Cable | Good speed, but test at evening peak: neighbourhood nodes get busy. |
| DSL / rural | Run speed -s 30 at peak time. Below 15 Mbps, choose HD over 4K. |
| Fixed wireless / satellite | Latency and data caps matter. Test several times and check your monthly cap. |
Already buffering? Follow the buffering method, then the Canadian buffering guide. For device set-up see IPTV setup in Canada.
Bilingual households
Split one big playlist into English and French lists so each TV loads only what it needs:
$ iptv-toolkit filter all.m3u -n "\bFR\b|French|Québec" -o french.m3u
$ iptv-toolkit filter all.m3u -n "\bFR\b|French|Québec" --exclude -o english.m3uAdjust the pattern to the way your provider names French channels; iptv-toolkit groups all.m3u shows the group names.
